Description
Very large and rare chart centered on the strait between Bangka's southeastern seacoast and Belitung's western shores.Short front views of the coastal relief are shown in the lower-left corner of the map.
The chart is prepared by H.L.Osthoff in 1840 and published in 1844 by Jacob Swart.
When Gerard Hulst van Keulen died in 1801, his widow ran the firm until her death in 1810, at which time Johannes Hulst van Keulen became the last van Keulen to run the firm.
In 1823, Jacob Swart entered the service of the van Keulen firm, and in 1844, with the death of Johannes Hulst van Keulen, head of the van Keulen Chartmakers was passed to Jacob Swart. When Jacob died in 1866, he was succeeded by his son, Jacob Swart, Jr. Finally, the possessions of the firm were sold at auction in 1885.

The map displays excellent detail concerning roads, rivers, towns, bays, harbours and other interesting topographical details.Thomson (1777-c1840) was a Scottish cartographer from Edinburgh, celebrated for his 1817 New General Atlas, published by himself in Edinburgh, John Cumming in Dublin, and Baldwin, Cradock, and Joy in London.

Fattening Alaska and appropriately leaving blank the unknown parts of Northern America. Listing Indian nations, towns such as Santa Fe.
